DO ACT, DO BE POSITIVE, DO THINK … IT’s “AND”​ – NOT “EITHER OR”​

I have spent some time thinking about the whole argument about Doing versus Acting. It is sometimes cast as Doing versus Being. Something I have even written about myself in the past. More as it relates to my Christianity in action, than from a business perspective.

If you like to read a lot, there is an interesting blog article from Jayne Thompson https://www.truity.com/blog/why-acting-positive-better-thinking-positive. I find it interesting because in some ways, the article contradicts itself. She lays out examples of thinking positive producing results and not. And of course – doing things based on the “Act As If” principle.

As we are coming to the end of the 12 Article Story Arc series here. The point of the series has been that I can help you achieve more, do more, be more, maybe even achieve far more than you ever thought possible.

DO NOT GET CAUGHT UP IN A USELESS ARGUMENT ABOUT WHETHER IT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO “BE” POSITIVE, TO “ACT” POSITIVE, OR TO “THINK” POSITIVE.

POSITIVITY is NECESSARILY HOLISTIC

The reality is that we need to consider that we are a wholly integrated person: mind, body & spirit.

I relate “BE” to our spirit, or the essence of who are in the spiritual sense. If we make every effort to “be” as in abide in a continual state of being as positively as possible – then this will have a beneficial impact on both our mind and our body.

Our body physically responds to our emotions. So, if we do not abiding positively in our emotions and spirit, then we will physically drag. And our thinking will be pushed negative when we feel negative, unless we take hold of ourselves to stop spiraling.

I relate “THINK” to mind, obviously. Proverbs 23:7 (NIV), King Solomon writes, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” This verse really speaks to the integration of our mentality, our thought patterns feeding into our spirit, or soul. The Hebrew Bible refers to the heart as the place where our being, our soul resides. So King Solomon is basically saying, “however you think about yourself, that’s how you’re gonna be.”

The Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:8 writes “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” What many sometimes forget is that this verse is immediately after a verse where Paul says “Rejoice in All Circumstances.”

What is the point? Our thinking needs to be positive, it needs to be good. We need to meditate, as in let our minds mentally linger, on things are right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy – think on that! Because if we are what we continually and habitually think about – then our words and deeds will reflect that inner mental reality.

Really, its all of the foregoing to come down to this crucial point.

You can’t just “be positive” and expect amazing results.

You can’t just “think positive” and expect amazing results.

You must also “do positive” things. In other words, TAKE ACTION!

Don’t fall into the trap of analysis into paralysis.

Don’t cycle on thinking and forget to implement.

Thinking has a necessary place – BUT, you must have ALL 3 AREAS cycling together and in synch. Work on bringing yourself into alignment spirtually, relationally, mentally and emotionally.

Meditating and managing our emotions and our emotional well being has a necessary place.

But now. Now! NOW! Now is the time to take action and move forward and move that body. DO something. So, in the interests of having you do something. Call me, instant message me, reach out so we can discover if there is an opportunity to work together. Your future is so bright – we both need sunglasses! Call!
