Goals

Dream with me, will you? Or won’t you?

by Benjamin Goss, MBA

For a period of three years, at a very difficult time in my life, I worked in a position that had me “locked away” metaphorically speaking in a 10×10 painted Sheetrock box with carpet, a desk, a computer and a phone.

It was like living in a box 8-10 hours a day at a time when the economy was not great, and I was recovering from a horribly bad business venture. One so bad it almost cost me everything.

It was difficult to even think about dreams or hopes when all I wanted to do was get out of my head and out of my basement. Things were so bad that I felt like I was literally unable to function; at times.

I needed to perform and I needed to generate income, so I gutted it out. Have you ever been there?

I had to stabilize myself emotionally and relationally. It was nearly impossible at times, and there were most definitely times when it was an epic fail. I failed with my wife. I failed with my children. I performed at work most of the time, but I had moments there as well.

When I came to the realization that I needed to refocus my attention and efforts on my faith, my family, my finances, my fitness and my future. My faith and family are about my emotional fitness. My finances & future for me related to my mental fitness. But what I want to focus on here is the future.

I don’t know about you, but for me I need the destination. Destination builds desire. Desire fuels energy and excitement. Without energy and excitement, it is difficult to maintain a passionate focus sufficient to drive exceptional results.

What are the dreams that fuel your desires?

Are there any destinations, whether physical or emotional that you need and want to reach?

The linkage between dreams, emotional energy and the psychological/physical stamina to exceed expectations is intertwined to the point that even if you separate them for discussion – you have to reintegrate them to understand how they interact & impact each other.

Re-engage your dreams to ignite performance. Review your goals to focus your energy. Recommit yourself to creating a phenomenal life for you and your family.
